Teaching Your Children Manners

Teach your children basic manners in a fun, effective way

The popular children’s book series, The Goodness Gracious Club, came about when Author Chris Palzis observed his friend’s kids at play one day.

“These kids were so rude to each other and the people around them that I was, frankly, dumbfounded,” says Palzis. “I heard myself quoting my Mother and Grandmother … ‘Where are these kids’ manners?!’ When I couldn’t find any age-appropriate books on manners and etiquette at the bookstore, I knew I had to do something about it.”

The popular series, The Goodness Gracious Club, focuses on three areas – Good Manners, Good Sportsmanship and Good Grades.

“Our children need every advantage they can get. These books provide a foundation that children can stand confidently upon during any situation, especially as they grow into teens and adults.

“Let’s face it, each year, the job market gets more competitive,” says Palzis. “And though you’re probably not thinking about your 7-year-old getting a job right now, the fact is this – as a prospective employer, who are you going to hire? … A teen that makes eye contact, shakes your hand firmly and speaks politely, or the kid that looks at his feet, barely shakes your hand and acts disrespectfully? The choice is obvious.”

Per Chris Palzis, the obvious starts when children begin learning good manners and practical etiquette through practice and repetition in fun exercises. It’s why his books are loaded with examples and games that cover the gamut from chewing with your mouth closed to introducing yourself, carrying items for others, holding doors open for others, congratulating peers and competitors on the playing field, using rhymes and flashcards to increase study retention and much more.

Says Palzis, “Practicing consistent respect and graciousness toward other kids and adults is only going to help kids and teens land at the top in the schoolroom, on the playing court or field, and eventually in the workplace. I wrote these books to help them find their way there … one good act after another.”
